More than a million trees will be planted in the Val-d’Oise to create a new forest

Val-d’Oise is preparing to welcome a new forest. In place of the Pierrelaye-Bessancourt plain, local elected officials plan to plant a million trees to add another section to the Paris green belt and a new look to a long-neglected area.

In all, the future national forest will cover 1 350 hectares and will include seven towns (Méry-sur-Oise, Frépillon, Bessancourt, Taverny, Herblay, Pierrelaye and Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône). This is the concrete result of a long-time project by the Syndicat Mixte d’aménagement de la plaine de Pierrelaye-Bessancourt (Smapp) and its president, Bernard Tailly.

With the development of this forest, the association guarantees that the land will have “environmental potential with natural environments and a variety of fauna and flora species, as demonstrated by the environmental assessment conducted by Biotope in the area in 2015-2016.”
