Ten Norman ports united in an environmental approach
Association des Ports Locaux de la Manche (APLM) brings together regional and departmental commercial and fishing ports along the English Channel coast. Since 2007, APLM has been encouraging the sharing of best practices, especially to improve the environmental quality of the harbour.
Today, APLM is launching an environmental diagnostic study mission on ten Norman ports. It is backed in this innovative environmental approach by the Departments of the Seine-Maritime, Calvados, and Manche, as well as by the Agence de l’Eau Seine-Normandie.
The study will be conducted by an engineering firm grouping led by Girus Océan, and assisted by Nautique Conseil, Biotope, Odyssée Développement and IDRA Bio & Littoral.
«This shared diagnostic will provide each of the ten ports a real action plan in the area of sustainable development,»
Alain Bazille, President of APLM and Vice President of the Seine-Maritime departmental council.
The aim of the study, expected to last over two years, is to improve the quality of the marine and land environments at the ports, while rendering the economic activity more sustainable. The diagnostic will be done in three phases:
- The field investigation with sampling (including water) and a survey on the economic fabric (ten to twelve months)
- The problem prioritisation phase to rank objectives (six months)
- Creation of plans of scheduled and costed actions for each port (six months)
The project has been mentioned several times in the media:
- Tendance Ouest, 30/06/2018, Environmental diagnosis for 10 Normandy ports
- Mer & Marine, 21/06/2018, APLM launches an environmental study
“L’Association des ports locaux de la Manche” presented its diagnostic of Norman ports, Thursday 28 June 2018 in Fécamp (Seine-Maritime).
