Training for exemption of protected species
In a context where biodiversity is increasingly threatened by human activities, understanding the issues related to the protection of species and being able to navigate effectively through the regulatory landscape is essential. It is with this in mind that we have designed our training on the exemption of protected species.
This training aims to provide a deep understanding of the legal framework, procedures, and key principles that govern species protection and the conditions under which exemptions may be granted.
What you need to know about the exemption training for protected species
This training offers a comprehensive and accurate overview of all the essential information needed to understand the regulatory framework for species protection. It covers the methodology for preparing and submitting an exemption request dossier. It also covers the basic principles of assessing impacts on protected fauna and flora, and designing appropriate avoidance, reduction, and compensation measures
Training duration
The training lasts for 7 hours, organized over a full day.
Training program
Morning:
- Regulation of Protected Species: An overview of key laws and regulations governing species protection in France and on an international scale. We will explore the Environmental Code, ministerial and prefectural orders, as well as the IUCN Red Lists and European Union habitat directives.
- Principles, Key Concepts, and Content of the Exemption Dossier: Here, we will examine in detail the essential elements of an exemption dossier, highlighting crucial aspects such as the justification for the request, avoidance, reduction and compensation measures, and proof of the absence of satisfactory alternatives.
Procedure and Instruction: This part will focus on the administrative procedure to follow when submitting an exemption request, the various stages of dossier review by competent authorities, and the evaluation criteria used.
Afternoon:
- Critical Phases of Dossier Design: We will analyze potential pitfalls when preparing the exemption dossier and share practical tips to maximize the chances of success of the request.
- Introduction to Compensation Sizing: The last part of the training will be devoted to designing appropriate compensation measures. You will learn how to assess the impact of the project on protected species and how to design compensation measures that ensure the maintenance of their conservation status.
What are the key points of a protected species exemption dossier?
An exemption dossier must provide detailed information about the project, justify the need for the exemption, demonstrate the absence of satisfactory alternatives, and propose appropriate compensation measures. It’s crucial to understand the importance of each element and know how to present them in a clear and compelling way. We will discuss these key points in detail during the training.
How to submit a protected species exemption dossier?
Submitting an exemption dossier requires a deep understanding of current regulations and a high attention to detail. The training will give you step-by-step instructions on the procedure to follow when submitting an exemption dossier and help you avoid common mistakes that could lead to the rejection of your request.
In which case should a protected species exemption request be made?
An exemption request is necessary when you plan to undertake an activity that may affect a protected species or its habitat, and there are no satisfactory alternatives. Whether it’s for a construction project, an agricultural activity, or even certain research activities, an exemption may be necessary. We will discuss various scenarios during the training.
Why is this training important ?
This training is essential for understanding and navigating the complex landscape of species protection legislation. As a professional, it will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to comply with the law while minimizing the impact of your projects on biodiversity. Furthermore, it will strengthen your commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, values that are increasingly important in today’s world.
Our training sessions
For the year 2023, we have scheduled two sessions for this training:
- September 26th
