Wetland training
Why take a training on wetlands?
Wetlands, which encompass marshes, peatlands, ponds, lakes, rivers, and other aquatic environments, are ecosystems remarkable for their biodiversity and their ability to provide multiple ecosystem services.
They play an essential role in water purification, the water cycle regulation, flood prevention, carbon sequestration, and are a valuable source of biodiversity. However, these natural spaces are under pressure due to various human activities, including urbanization, drying for agriculture, pollution, and climate change.
Therefore, mastering the regulatory context related to the evaluation of wetland functions, knowing the essential data for implementing the national method on the impacted site and the compensation site, understanding the evaluation modalities of hydrological, biogeochemical functions and the life cycle fulfillment of species, as well as interpreting the results obtained and proposing compensatory measures, have become essential skills for anyone working in the field of environment.
The training on the assessment and compensation of wetlands aims to develop these skills. It allows understanding the importance of wetlands, learning to assess their functions, and proposing compensatory measures for the loss of functionality observed on the impacted site.
What is the program for the wetland training?
The training takes place over three days, for a total of 21 hours. No field session is planned for this training. The detailed program is as follows:
Day 1
Introduction to wetlands: Understand what wetlands are, their diversity, role, and functions on a territorial scale. A reminder of the regulatory context related to the evaluation of wetland functions will also be made.
Presentation of the national wetland method: We will present the national wetland assessment method and the associated tools to enable you to collect the essential data for the application of this method.
Day 2
Application of the national method on a compensation site: The third day will be devoted to the application of the national method on a compensation site (without a field session). We will guide you through the steps to propose compensation measures.
Analysis and understanding of the sizing interface and interpretation of the results: We will help you understand the sizing interface (subject to the release of version 2 of the national method) and interpret the results. Finally, we will discuss the drafting of a technical opinion to conclude the training.
Who is the target audience for this training?
This training is specifically designed to meet the needs of a variety of professionals involved in the management, protection, and enhancement of wetlands. It is specifically aimed at:
- Project leaders: Project leaders, whether they work in the field of urban planning, infrastructure, agriculture, or any other area that could impact wetlands, will find this training extremely beneficial. The training will provide them with the necessary tools to assess the potential effects of their projects on wetlands, as well as to design and implement effective compensation strategies.
- Thematic referents in companies: Thematic referents in companies, such as sustainability managers, environment officers, or eco-design managers, will find this training valuable. By learning how to assess and offset impacts on wetlands, they can help their companies minimize their environmental impacts and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.
- State services: Civil servants and employees of state services in charge of water resources regulation and wetlands management will also find this training very useful. It will provide them with a solid foundation for assessing compensation proposals and for developing effective wetland protection and management policies.
